BEST Services will only design and install lightning protection systems which are compliant with BS 6651(using the Faraday Cage principle), thus ensuring that damages to the structure and its contents, failures of associated electrical and electronic systems and injuries to people or animals in or close to the structure are eliminated as far as practicable.
BEST Services Ltd are committed to continuous improvement within the Lightning Protection and Steeplejack Industry, we are pleased to confirm that all BEST Engineers involved with lightning conductor design work, have undertaken a Designers Accreditation to demonstrate their competence to provide lightning protection system designs to BS6651:1999.
Detailed information about the principles and Standards upon which BEST Services work is based, are available on request.
Standards
BEST Services activities are developed and undertaken strictly in accordance with relevant National, European and International Standards.
These standards include, but are not limited to:
BS 6651
BS EN 62305
(which is due to replace BS 6651)
NFPA 780
VDE 0185
Materials
Recently introduced CENELEC (European) standards relating to the connection components, conductors and earth electrodes used in the lightning protection systems have made more rigorous the process by which a lightning protection system component is judged to be safe and suitable for its application.
Component parts are subjected to environmental pre-conditioning. This simulates the ageing process of the components in various environmental conditions over many years. After this, the components are subjected to three electrical impulse shots to simulate a lightning strike. Finally, the components are subjected to a loosening torque test to confirm the component’s suitability for its particular application.
BEST Services use only the highest quality materials provided by Furse of Nottingham. All Furse connection components used in the installation of lightning protection systems by BEST Services have now passed the BS EN 50164-1:2000 test procedure. All tests were witnessed and accredited by Bureau Veritas, an internationally recognised inspection organisation.
Together with fully trained, experienced operatives from BEST Services and high quality materials provided by our close partner Furse, you can be assured your lightning protection system will meet the highest possible standards.
